Lamar Hunt Jr., President of Loretto Ventures, LLC, purchased the Topeka RoadRunners Tier II junior hockey team from Don Stone in mid-April of 2018, revealed the team’s new name Tuesday, June 5th during a gathering at the Kansas Expocentre. Hunt said after researching the history of Kansas’s capital city, that he and his team found a name that “really reflects this community.”

The crowd of around 250 apparently agreed, voicing support with cheers and applause when Hunt announced the Pilots name. Amongst the applause, his coaches pulled down a black curtain revealing the new logo. Read more here…
